Initial query: My daughter is in the second year of A-level English Language. She hopes to study Spanish and Sociology at university but will need to get a B at A-level English Language. She achieved only a D at AS. There are problems in her class which are distracting her. She will resit AS in January.
She probably needs up to 2 hours per week at least until her resits and possibly until her A levels next year. Can you help please?
Later comment: Richard has been very good. Once he had one or two sessions with Emily he identified the issues and has really helped Emily to address them. While it is still early days, Emily is noticing an improvement in her marks for work completed in English in the last few weeks
Query: Looking for a tutor during the summer holiday for my son to help him with pre-test/pre-common entrance in Oct esp. with correcting his composition, checking his comprehension and practising for an interview.
Comment: My son had 5 sessions already with Richard, very flexible, very helpful, my son enjoys his tuition, so far so good.
Query: Hi, my son is about to take his GCSEs and is struggling with revision. He's quite bright, but English is not his favourite subject - typical boy plus some dyslexia problems at primary school stage. He should hit a C grade but would like some short term support to raise his confidence and build on his weaker areas.
Comment: Richard has done a brilliant job in a very short time to build rapport with my son and give him some good exam techniques, which I think raised my son's confidence during his English GCSE.
Query: I am writing a book and I am looking for a tutor to help with punctuation, dialogue and other things. I know I need help in various areas and would appreciate professional guidance.

My daughter XXX (now in year 7 at XXXX School) has been taking English lessons with Richard for over two years now.
At Primary school, although in the top group for Maths, XXX had been having some issues with her reading and writing, which the school had
not been addressing adequately, hence my decision to give XXX the opportunity to have some extra-support in English.
Over the years, Richard’s support has been absolutely essential not only in helping XXX to improve her marks in English at school, but to
actually enjoy her reading and even more her writing. Richard’s lessons are always very engaging, sometime on topics they do
at school, sometime on topics taken from the news, or perhaps XXX’s experiences, a special holiday or a trip. XXX has always been very
happy to do tasks in preparation for Richard’s lesson, because they are interesting and stimulating.
I think that this is key to successful learning and teaching as well, and I couldn’t have hoped for a better teacher for XXX – he has
understood her personality, what she is interested in, her weaknesses, and working from this Richard put together a very effective framework
for XXX to develop her literacy skills within.
